Alcoholism Facts
Just like many things that seem to be known
to many yet the real definition remains unclear, alcoholism poses
no exception. Alcoholism is rampantly observed around the globe yet
maybe a low percentage really knows what it is all about. Here then
are some alcoholism facts that might shed light to those who are struggling
to define the term.
Alcohol is a depressant not
a mood booster
Contrary to what other alcohol
drinkers think that it can boost emotion and confidence, alcohol is
known medically as a depressant of the central nervous system. It
results to decrease in activity, increase anxiety,
and tension.
Therefore, that feeling of emotional boost is just temporary, the
more one takes in alcohol the higher the effect on the nervous
system, and the more it can degrade your emotional balance.
Alcoholism promotes
nutritional deficiencies
One of the ill effects of
alcohol once ingested can rather inhibit proper absorption of the
system of various vitamins either in supplement forms or from the
food eaten. Such then affects other systems and can lead to serious
maladies such as liver cirrhosis, heart ailments, and even sexual
dysfunction.
Alcoholism is traced back to
your first 20 years of life
As the old maxim goes, “What
the children see in their household can greatly influence their
attitude and outlooks towards various things in life” also applies
to alcoholism cases. The first 20 years of life can affect
attitudes towards drinking alcohol. Also influential are the
parent’s perception and attitude on drinking, surrounding peers,
family relationships and neighborhood.
Alcohol stays in one's
system even after peeing
If you think that once you pee
you have already taken the alcohol inside your system, you are
greatly mistaken. Alcohol can stay in one's body as long as the
liver has not broken it down. The effects usually appear 10 minutes
after drinking and reach its height between 40 minutes to an hour.
However if the alcohol consumed is greater than the degree by how
your liver breaks it down, the concentration of alcohol on the
blood then rises.
Different country, different
rules
Unfortunately, no standard level of intoxication exists for all
countries; therefore, each country defines their rule on
intoxication. The legal limit however in most areas is between
0.08- 0.10. These are just some basic alcoholism facts. There
is much more to learn about this condition.
