Alcoholism Marriage
Alcoholism is a
serious problem that is extremely difficult to handle alone. However, many times alcoholism is
present during a marriage and is normally deemed as an alcoholism marriage. At times, this is worse for both parties because the alcoholic’s partner watches the other slowly fall apart
while feeling helpless and often receives the backlashes of alcoholism rage.
The alcoholic at
times does not even realize what he or she is doing as they slowly slip away from reality. These
marriages often end up in divorce because there is no sign that the marriage will recover without medical treatment of the alcoholic and this
personal disaster only throws the alcoholic into a downward spiral trend.
Normally only
one-half of the partnership is consumed by alcohol while the other altruistically reaches out for help to stop these alcoholic
tendencies. As the spouse of an alcoholic, one tries the most he or she can to help the beloved
(in sickness and in health) yet after a period of time the situation often becomes too unbearable and is hazardous to the partner’s health to
stay in a emotionally and physically abusive relationship.
Alcoholics are
more prone to becoming irrational, angry and violent within seconds. These behavior
characteristics are common in an alcoholism marriage and the alcoholic often becomes physically abusive towards the better half.
Everything about
the alcoholic will change. This includes the person’s appearance and personality. An alcoholism
marriage is radically different from the marriage that one initially consented to be part of. The
quality of life for both halves greatly diminishes because one is being abused while the other is virtually killing him or herself creating
medical problems such as pancreatic issues, hypertension, heart disease and liver cirrhosis.
Due to the
alcohol, the entire relationship fails. The alcohol disturbs the quality of life and it detains a
person from being able to make a healthy means of living. Therefore, the alcoholic is not working
and cannot provide for his or her family creating more stress on both partners and more alcohol consumption by the alcoholic.
With all of the
factors laid out it is easy to see why alcoholism marriage is the most common reason for divorce and domestic violence in the
United States. Sometimes a
marriage failing due to alcohol can be salvaged but other times the marriage goes beyond repair.
The alcohol can create permanent damage and parts of the person that have been lost can never be fully recovered. To recover, even partially, it takes a lifetime of dedication, therapy and medical treatment in a recovering
alcoholic rehabilitation facility.
