Alcoholism Signs
Alcoholism is a disease that many are unaware that
exists. People know
that it is a problem but do not classify it as a
disease. However, it
is very much a disease. There are also various
alcoholism signs
that can be used to decipher if someone you know is an
alcoholic.
Although these signs of alcoholism are not tell all signs that are one hundred
percent accurate, they are used as red flags to look further into
the fact that someone you may know is suffering from this
disease. Alcoholics
have the tendency to show symptoms that refer to both their mental
and physical health.
People who have
been going through a hard time in their life such as the collapse
of personal relationships such as a divorce, unemployment and
financial burdens, anxiety and depression often have the tendency
to enhance their drinking habits.
Physically the person you once knew will show alcoholism signs such
as constant craving for alcohol and shaking if they have gone even
an hour without having had a drink. This mainly happens in the
extreme cases yet after four hours without having a drink can set
off anxiety, increased levels of irritation and anger and
trembling.
Other key alcoholism signs include people who often drink alone, go
to the bars at all hours of the day, who are constantly confused,
have increased abdominal pain, become easily irritated, defensive,
hostel and violent, possess little control over their drinking
habits, show less of an appetite and have a tendency to become
nauseous and vomit.
Alcoholics often make excuses for their drinking habits by using
their personal difficulties as a reasonable excuse for the
continuation of their alcoholism. Once loved ones begin to realize
the extent of how serious the situation is the alcoholic begins to
hide their alcohol use.
These alcoholism signs can help to point out that someone already
is an alcoholic or someone who is on the verge of becoming an
alcoholic. For
example, many people create alcoholic tendencies yet they are not
full alcoholics.
Normally the breaking point is when a personal disaster comes their
way.
It is a slippery slope from there, which few people can fully
recover. Intervention can help at certain stages of alcoholism, but
most alcoholics do not realize the signs of alcoholism until they
have reached rock bottom. From there some are able to get
help and others just slowly waste away.
