Alcoholism Symptoms
Alcoholism is a disease
that progresses to chronic stages if not given attention. Addiction
could start from mere curiosity or from that single drop that
touched ones lips because of peer urging and may eventually spark
up dependence. Also greatly associated with alcohol dependence are
pressure of all forms that are visible first in the confines of the
home, then the outer surroundings like neighborhood, school and for
those working, the entire work place. Though not medically advised,
others use alcohol as sleeping agent to help them have a good night
sleep while still others use it to boost their emotions and cover
shyness. No matter what the reasons are for use, one should try to
assess if he or she is becoming dependent on it or not. What
then are common alcoholism symptoms?
Since it is a progressing
condition, alcoholism symptoms vary from one stage to another.
There are earlier symptoms that eventually changes or transforms
into more ailing conditions should dependence on it is taken to
another level. In earlier stages, an alcoholic is showing a certain
pattern of heavy drinking that is
becoming habitual
and too obvious for relatives and friends not to notice.
Most of these instances of too
much drinking also occur in unsafe situations like when one is
driving a vehicle. One can be considered on his or her road to
dependence is there is a craving to intoxicate the system with
alcohol more frequently. Another common symptom of alcoholism is
infliction of violence because of mood swings.
For severe cases, alcoholism
symptoms may be a combination or single manifestation of extended
effects of earlier signs. For instance, dependent individuals tend
to take in excessive volume of alcoholic beverages in order to feel
the effects. This is referred to as tolerance. As they become
tolerant, these persons then spend a larger fraction of their time
on alcohol-related activities and most often neglect and missed out
other important functions. Sadly, despite knowing the ill effects
of too much drinking, they continue drinking. In addition, in
severe cases, deferring or withdrawing from the vice is almost
impossible and usually associated with withdrawal symptoms such as
nausea, shakiness, sweating and anxiety.
